Hooded Ghost

A reader has described a haunting at the old military hospital in Catterick. He was a patient at the Duchess of Kent Military Hospital and saw a tall black cloaked entity or ghost around 7ft wearing a hooded robe. He would like to know if anyone else has seen it?

His encounter was in 2001 and he told us:

It was right next to my bed in the DKMH and it changed my life really and I still dwell on it today. Another lad in the same room also witnessed it. He was in a state; I've never experienced someone in so much panic/shock. I was in the shower at the time and when I got out, I could see straight down the corridor to where my room was (six bedrooms). He had his back to me, and two nurses were stood with him. I thought something was odd because he was standing there in his boxer shorts. When I got to the room, I noticed another nurse in the room sweeping around with a torch (there must have been others in there asleep perhaps). When I asked what was going on, he said he saw a 7ft hooded, cloaked entity by my bed, while I was in the shower. I also remember the look on the nurses' faces. Both looked scared. I would love to try to find that lad but don't know his name, and would love to find those nurses, but don't remember their names either. One was military and one was a civilian health care assistant. The only member of staff I remember by name was a woman called Julie, I don't know if she was a nurse or care assistant, but she was army and a Lance Corporal.

The only corroboration I've managed to come across was something a friend found for me on a Facebook post made by a woman. She said something along the lines of 'Has anyone else seen a tall black ghost at Catterick military hospital'. I messaged her but noticed her account had been inactive for some time, I even messaged a friend of hers but never got anything back.

This incident has really changed my life. I went from a stereotypical, beer-drinking squaddie to getting myself into university to study physics and astronomy largely because of that experience. I absolutely know that this is a real phenomenon, exactly what it is I don't know. But I cannot leave it alone, even 20 years later.

I believe Derby County civilian hospital had the same spectre visit them too in 2009. Google black hooded ghost Derby County Hospital 2009 and you'll see news reports from the Daily Telegraph and the Mail newspapers. I travelled to the hospital from the Wirral, where I'm from, just to see if I could get more info. I spoke with a few people, but ultimately, they would not give me anything substantial. I then submitted a Freedom of Information request and they admitted to having people see a 'black shadow'.
